Family Visit. The news was both exciting and terrifying. The boys were coming to visit and stay for the night. They would arrive bearing copious quantities of dim sum food and yet it was a very different gathering. Everyone was masked. Despite the chill, windows were open. We initially socialized in the back yard. When it was time for dinner we used every inch of our living and dining room to spread out as we enjoyed our meal. Eve and I sat at the coffee table, much to the delight of Caly who assumed that eating on the same level she eats was simply an invitation to share (or at least pet). We enjoyed sports, a Northwestern blowout (very rare) and a Dodgers crushing loss, and our favorite all-family show: The Amazing Race which was saved for the occasion. It was a great gathering. For the first time I wore a mask for 8 hours. My ears were a little sore but we were as safe as we could muster. Except maybe for the nap that Scott took on the couch with an uncovered nose, we did a pretty good job of staying safe. Check back and 14 days and let's see if that is still the conclusion!

6 to 3. We've had finals in all the major sports tightly packed together, but this is not a sports score. This is the new "balance" on the Supreme Court. Elections have consequences. I'm expecting a big win and an equally big barrel of consequences to follow.
