Roller Coaster. It's the third day of Election Day. The winner of the election is yet to be decided but it's increasingly clear that it will either be Biden or be stolen in the courts. One of the two. While my confidence in a Biden win has really never waivered through these three days of counting, my emotions have been all over the place. There's other stuff too. There is a dog who had surgery yesterday and has yet to return home. There is the son who turned 27 yesterday without the benefit of a celebration with his parents. There is work that has been particularly challenging the last few days (and continues). And there's the 24/7 stream of CNN going into my brain. I heard a quote that, "only the Democrats could be upset by a win." And maybe that's true. If Biden wins it may not be with the Senate. It will be with a loss of House seats. There won't be turning of state legislatures to address the decade long decisions of redistricting. There is the GOP Senate leader pledging to keep progressives out of a Biden cabinet. The losers, as one person said, are the progressives and that may well be true but I'm saddest about the polls.
Polling is a blend of art and science that extracts beliefs and opinions and allows us to see the future. Polling is the same thing people like me use to run our businesses. The polls were consistently off. Most state polls missed it. Most national polls missed it. They missed the split ticket vote. One credible poll had Wisconsin up by double digits percentage points only to see the final count of less than 1%. Many are suggesting the industry is dead. As goofy as it sounds, that's what's making me saddest today. Life will go on but I feel a reset happening. That reset will take time. And the count continues.
Number News. I must say that most of the news is focused on numbers and math. I like that. It gives me a level of comfort. Don't know why. Makes me weird. I don't care. But it's a numbers bonanza...there are percentages and differences and acceleration and analysis. I would argue that the last three days have been the numbers olympics!
Un-United. The United States of America doesn't seem too united right now. This election was tighter than anyone believed. Maybe we should rename the country the 50/50 Fifty States of America.

It's Over. The experts haven't called it yet. I will. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the next President and Vice President. Let the healing begin.
