We had a major milestone this past weekend (sort of like an Anniversary
present) when, for the first time, we went to the movies together as a family
and checked our kids into Polar Express while we went in to see Bridget
Jones. I was a bit worried about leaving the kids unattended and really
had no idea if it was "politically correct." Eve ran into a friend in the
hall who saw Eve ushering the kids in and then she saw me in the other
theatre. She thought this separate movies thing was a great idea. Then she
saw yet another friend sitting in the theatre three rows back. They talked
at a distance and she told the friend about the Harris' who put their kids in a
different theatre. Now the whole theatre was looking at me and I assume
thinking (bad parents, bad parents). In the end both couples enjoyed their
movies and if this is something we can do again, I will consider this a major
milestone in parenting. We actually might have the ability to go to the
movies without the $50 babysitting tax! That might be the best Anniversary
present of all.
