Scottie's Little League

All Star Team

As Scottie's Little League career came to an end, he was selected for the Major League All Star team and later for the District Super Bowl Team. While this is not the team that will try to make it all the way to Williamsport, these players were hand picked to represent San Carlos as they played teams from neighboring cities.

Scottie's team won their first game against Half Moon Bay by enough runs to invoke the "slaughter" rule. The second game, however, was against San Mateo--a team that must have outweighed our team by a good 500 pounds. Scottie was selected to be the starting pitcher and held the other team hitless except for a whopping two-run home run. San Carlos came back and scored a run in their half, to bring the game within one run. In the second inning Scottie was still on the mound when one of the Redwood City behemoths blasted a line drive right back into the box.

From my vantage point along the right field foul line it looked like Scottie caught the ball. But after a long two-count the ball dribbled to the ground and Scottie crumpled in the dirt. The ball went directly into his arm and it's safe to say that this was the worst incident of his Little League career. After five minutes he was escorted off the field. While thankfully he fully recovered after about three days, the team's momentum never seemed to recover. They ultimately lost 6 to 9 but did a great job of representing their city.
